A Safe Word
Today's quote is one word and it'll be the last word of this email.
Few people have achieved what Tiger Woods has professionally. When you mention Tiger's accomplishments, people often don't argue whether or not he's the greatest golfer of all time, but if he's the greatest athlete.
While possessing incredible natural ability, Tiger is no natural product. His father, Earl Woods, used military regimen training and tactics on Tiger from a young age to produce the champion we know today.
Earl valued the mental aspect of competition and would wage psychological warfare on Tiger to help him build mental fortitude. Earl recognized that this could be disastrous. He could push Tiger over the edge, and the beratement could turn destructive, so Tiger and he decided on a safe word. No matter what the circumstances were, all Tiger needed to do to turn off the mental onslaught was utter this one word.
Decades of training and Earl never heard that one word escape Tiger's lips. Not once. The safe word that could have stopped it all explains in part why Tiger is Tiger.
Here’s the word:
"Enough"
