Be Selfish

Benjamin Franklin approved

"I used to use the old phrase 'I'll take care of you if you take care of me'. I found out how short-ended that was. I changed it. Here it is. 'I'll take care of me for you, if you'll take care of you for me'. The best contribution I can make to you if you're my friend is my personal development." - Jim Rohn

Sounds kind of selfish, right?

Benjamin Franklin didn't think so.

In 1727, he gathered a group of tradesmen and artisans to form the “Junto Club”. The only rule? Make yourself better. Franklin believed if each member focused on personal growth, everyone would rise.

The result? This "selfish" little club gave America its first lending library, volunteer fire department, public hospital, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Turns out when you're the average of your five closest friends, the best gift you can give them is a higher average.

Take care of yourself. It's the least selfish thing you can do.

Nothing has paid a higher dividend in my own self improvement than reading books. Here’s the last three books I’ve read:

The Artist Way
The Almanack of Naval Ravikant
How Will You Measure Your Life?
