There are a million reasons to play it safe. And when you start listing them out it almost becomes lunacy to do anything other than ride the status quo.

A 401k is a sure thing. Getting in shape takes time and hurts, double whammy. Writing online means people will judge you for your weird ideas (ok this is probably just me).

The first hedge against the downside makes a ton of sense. Being risky is a young man’s game. You have a mortgage or a family or some other perfectly good explanation to swap dreams for lack of nightmares.

Hundreds of hedges later and you have wrapped yourself in bubble wrap. Impermeable to outside forces, but incapable of any real movement. It’s a bad deal. The scrapes and bruises are worth it.
