Everything is for rent
“Men worry a thousand times more about increasing their wealth than about increasing their knowledge. And yet it is clear to any one that the happiness of man depends much more upon what is within man than upon what he possesses.”
-Schopenhauer
Everything material is simply for rent. Anyone who has lost something of value realizes this. If it can be stolen, taxed, traded, or commandeered then it’s not yours.
You may have a right to it or feel you have even earned it, but the only thing that is truly ours is what can’t be taken. Knowledge, integrity, character.
