Hold the Inner Flame

Without illusion

“It's easy to be a naive idealist. It's easy to be a cynical realist. It's quite another thing to have no illusions and still hold the inner flame.”

Marie-Louise von Franz

Marie-Louise von Franz was a famous Swiss psychologist and Carl Jung’s closest colleague. Her work encompassed the psychology of fairy tales, dream interpretation, and resulted in over 20 books

Von Franz demonstrated exceptional intellect from a young age but rejected religious education. After multiple acts of defiance, the priest arranged for her to receive separate instruction from the class.

This backfired.

Not only did von Franz maintain her stance, but the priest eventually lost his faith and left the ministry.
