Keep Moving
“The ability to keep moving when you are feeling scared, fearful, or lazy is the sign of true mental strength” -Matthew Donnelly
The Sydney to Melbourne, Australia ultra marathon is a 543.7 miles (875 KM). The inaugural race was in 1983 and its winner is nothing short of a legend.
At the start line stood a pack of runners decked out in their professional running kits and one Cliff Young. Cliff was a 61 year old farmer and showed up in his regular farming clothes. Cliff grew up on a sheep farm and would run for days at a time wrangling wayward sheep.
Cliff’s chances looked bleak out the gate. The professional runners quickly established a lead while Cliff sported a walk/shuffle cadence. By the end of the first day he was well behind. When night came and the other runners laid down to rest, Cliff continued his shuffle.
And he didn’t stop shuffling for five and a half days. Not only did he win, he crossed the finish line 10 hours ahead of the next closest runner.
Don’t stop shuffling!
