Life Is Not A Marathon
So run fast
“The best pace is a suicide pace, and today is a good day to die.” -Steve Prefontaine
For every “Life is a marathon, not a sprint” quote there is a Steve Prefontaine citation to body slam it. The man embodied it in the way he ran his races and ultimately his life: all out.
Life is marathon implies there is a known ending, that you can adequately pace what’s in front of you. What hubris do you have to possess to think you can pace life? There’s an old Yiddish proverb that says “Der mentsh trakht un got lakh”; in English:
Man plans, God laughs.
You don’t know what’s coming, so run your best race today.
