At the age of 13, Jack was sent to work at a Cannery for 12-18 hours a day. Not wanting to be condemned to a life of cans, Jack convinced his foster mother to loan him money to purchase a Sloop. With his newly found vessel, Jack made a career change from canner to Oyster Pirate.

This was short-lived. He damaged the boat beyond repair and was off to his next job.

This set the tone for Jack’s life. He went on to be a seal hunter in the North Pacific, Klondike Gold Rush prospector, war correspondent, rancher, hobo/train hopper, licensed deep-sea sailor, and amateur boxer.

But the profession you probably know him most for is Author. Jack wrote books like “The Call of The Wild” and “White Fang”.
