“We get to choose our regrets”
-Christopher Hitchens
The phrase “No regrets” peaked in popularity sometime in the mid 2010’s. Largely due to a combination of a popular anime Attack on Titan and the movie We’re the Millers where a clueless character has the words “No Ragrets” tattooed on his chest.
It’s really bumper sticker advice. A verbal anesthesia to help you ignore the tradeoffs of the decision you’re about to make and or numb your previously poor judgement.
Hitchens cuts through this fantasy. We don't get to avoid regrets, we choose which ones we'll carry. Our decisions are our own, and so are their consequences.
Choose them.
