People who bring out the best in you
“Ambitious people are rare, so if everyone is mixed together randomly, as they tend to be early in people’s lives, then the ambitious ones won’t have many ambitious peers. When you take people like this and put them together with other ambitious people, they bloom like dying plants given water. Probably most ambitious people are starved for the sort of encouragement they’d get from ambitious peers, whatever their age.” -Paul Graham
Paul Graham would know something of mixing ambitious people together. He founded Y Combinator, the legendary the start-up incubator. It’s the birthplace of companies like Airbnb, Coinbase, Reddit, and Doordash to name a few. It’s considered one of the most exclusive “clubs” you can get into.
Most of us won’t become Y Combinator alumni. But we’re all familiar with people or groups that radiate energy. It’s the friend who always makes you feel good or the podcast that makes you think bigger.
That’s good company. Spend more time there.
