Manifest Destiny was an idea that set 19th century America ablaze. Central to the philosophy was that American exceptionalism had a calling to spread its power farther west into unsettled and occupied territories. To the westward bound settler this wasn’t a policy, it was a mandate from the divine.

Under the influence of this invisible force the United States expanded into Texas, Oregon, Colorado, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada. Later Alaska would be purchased and Hawaii annexed under this same philosophy. In a short time the United States moved from eastern colonies to controlling the western hemisphere.

Bullets were fired, armies clashed, but make no mistake, an idea, a conviction conquered the west.
