Taller than Abe

True character is revealed with power

“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power."

-Abraham Lincoln

Yesterday Lincoln turned 216. He's one of history's most quotable figures, but I wonder: Was it all profound, or did we just document the profound? Or did we document everything because it was profound?

Chicken and egg.

Across from Ford's Theatre, where Lincoln met his end, stands a museum housing a 34-foot stack of books. 6,800 volumes all about his life. And still, only a fraction of what's been written.

The book sky scraper stands as a witness to Lincoln’s own words. He was given power, and his actions now stand as a tower even taller than him.
