Thorns Bring Flowers
Vincent Van Goghs journey to joy
“You can see, then, that I’m working like mad, but for the moment it isn’t giving very heartening results. But I have hopes that these thorns will bear white flowers in their time, and this apparently sterile struggle is nothing other than a labor of giving birth. First pain, then joy afterwards.” -Vincent van Gogh
If I told you, that if you worked hard that in a month you would achieve your goals, would you do it? I sure hope so. Get some better goals if not.
What about a year?
What about ten?
What about waiting till after you were gone to be finally recognized for your life’s work?
Then what?
This quote is from a letter written by Vincent van Gogh to his brother Theo. While a household name now, Van Gogh died in obscurity, surrounded by the thorns. A lifelong struggle to be relevant and appreciated has now blossomed into a hundred plus years of white flowers.
Push through the pain, the joy will last much longer.
