What Do You Do When You Lose An Eye?
"Death had to take him sleeping, for if Roosevelt had been awake there would have been a fight." -Thomas Marshall
There’s a reason Theodore Roosevelt referred to himself as a Bull Moose. For most people, giving yourself such a name would be pompous or arrogant. I think in the case of President Roosevelt he doesn’t quite go far enough.
Here’s proof. Roosevelt was an avid boxer and becoming president wasn’t going to stop him from practicing his favorite sport. That was until his retina was detached during a sparring match at the white house in 1908. I can’t imagine being the guy who made the president lose vision in one eye. Now how did President Roosevelt respond? Well he did the sensible thing and decided boxing wasn’t for him anymore.
He began rolling jiu-jitsu instead.
