Today’s Quote
“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Antoine possessed a great deal of range in his life. Born in Lyon, France Antoine trained as a pilot from a young age and began delivering airmail across North Africa and Europe in his 20’s. During this same period, he began publishing books that became popular across Europe.
Then the second world war broke out and pilots were in high demand.
Antoine flew reconnaissance missions for France until its armistice with Germany. Being grounded, Antoine fled to America and continued his writing. During that time he published his most famous piece of work, The Little Prince.
In 1943 he returned to the war to fly again for the Free French Air Force. A year later, during a mission over Corsica, Antoine vanished. His disappearance remained a mystery for almost 60 years until a fisherman discovered remnants of his plane just south of Marseille.
