You Check Your Phone Every 5 Minutes

‘Deep work’ is a concept that was popularized by Cal Newport’s book. It describes a flow state free of distraction that allows you to push your cognitive capabilities to your ceiling. It typically takes someone 15-20 minutes to really settle into a state of deep work. Here’s the problem:
The average American checks their phone 205 times during the day or, roughly every 5 minutes. We live in a perpetual shallow state of work.
